The enormous market at Otavalo is particularly well known for its textiles. Saturday is the biggest market day and if you can get there at dawn, you will also catch a glimpse of the weekly animal market. In the beautiful countryside surrounding Otavalo local villages each specialise in their own particular handicraft.  There are several charming haciendas to stay in and there is excellent hiking and horse riding in the area.
