Camagüey is proudly pristine, compared to many Cuban towns, and rustically pretty, with an impressive array of decorative facades, elaborate churches and romantic squares. Its historic centre – considered the largest and best preserved in Cuba–has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors delight in, or are intrigued by, the city’s many lavish churches and public buildings, surprisingly ornate for such a laid-back town.
