<p>Time Mutema and Robert Mudimba, who worked together at <a href="http://singita.com/lodge/singita-pamushana-lodge/">Singita Pamushana Lodge</a> recently, share a profound and meaningful connection with the historic biodiversity of the <a href="http://singita.com/region/singita-pamushana/">Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve</a>, the 130,000-acre property in which the lodge is found. Together, they take guests on twice-daily game drives, where they are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife, including species such as sable, cheetah, wild dog, lion, leopard and an abundance of bird life.</p>

<p>Time and Robert enjoy any outdoor activity, and their favourite part of the job is exploring the wild on foot and “edutaining” guests. Their combined knowledge of the area and its flora and fauna is considerable, and means that they are able to delight visitors with information about the amazing animals they see, as well as amusing stories and local legends from their years in the bush. Time is particularly in awe of Robert’s ability to not only identify any spoor they might come across, but also quickly establish its age and how far away the animal is! Time says: “Robert is an accomplished tracker who is able to read the signs of the wild like nobody else.”</p>

<p>As well as going on game drives, the duo is also responsible for taking guests on <a href="http://singita.com/activity/safari-5/?item=13652">guided safari walks</a>, visits to the <a href="http://singita.com/activity/rock-art-site-visit/?item=13652">ancient rock art sites</a> in the reserve, <a href="http://singita.com/activity/fishing/?item=13652">fishing on the dam</a>, <a href="http://singita.com/activity/stargazing/?item=13652">stargazing</a> and <a href="http://singita.com/activity/sundowner-cruise/?item=13652">sunset cruises</a>. A typical day begins before dawn, when they prepare the game vehicle before meeting the guests at 05h30 and setting off on the morning game drive or bush walk. Mid-morning is prime fishing time, so they can often be found out on the dam with guests, trawling for tiger fish, bass and bream. After lunch, they get ready for the evening game drive, revealing the elusive magic of nocturnal Africa before returning to the lodge for dinner.</p>

Today we continue the theme with Japhet (field guide) and Difficulty (tracker), a dynamic duo from <a href="http://singita.com/region/singita-pamushana/" target="_blank">Singita Pamushana</a> in Zimbabwe. <p>I have worked with my tracker, Difficulty, for two years. He is easy to work with, not only because he loves what he does and is so dedicated, but his tracking skills are second to none. In my opinion, he can track any living creature on earth! Difficulty is also very hard-working and we have great mutual respect for one another.</p>

<p>Meeting guests for the first time is one of the highlights of our job, because nobody believes that Difficulty is his real name! In African culture, children are traditionally named for their mother’s experience while pregnant, and unfortunately Difficulty’s mother had a hard time while she was carrying him. She suffered with ill health and the family also felt the effects of a bad drought, and that’s how he got his name. Telling the story is a great way for us to bond with our guests and they always enjoy hearing it.</p>

<p>We particularly love to track the elusive black rhino, because it is both challenging and rewarding, and gives us an opportunity to improve our skills together. The best part of the day is often the end of a game drive or bush walk when we catch up on the day’s events, or laugh about an amusing experience. A day spent in the bush with Difficulty is always enjoyable and always a learning experience.</p>

By now, you’ve met a number of our team members, including <a href="http://singita.com/wildlife/people-of-singita-tengwe-siabwanda/" target="_blank">Tengwe</a>, a second-generation field guide based at <a href="http://singita.com/lodge/singita-pamushana-lodge/">Singita Pamushana Lodge</a>, <a href="http://singita.com/food/tks-journey/" target="_blank">TK</a>, a talented young chef who has worked with Liam Tomlin at <a href="http://singita.com/lodges-and-camps/singita-lebombo-lodge-evolved/" target="_blank">Singita Lebombo Lodge</a>, and Singita’s formidable <a href="http://singita.com/general/get-to-know-us-singitas-female-field-guides/" target="_blank">team of female field guides</a>. Today we would like to introduce you to someone affectionately known as “King Eddie”:</p>

<p>Edward Mzimba started his professional journey in hospitality as a waiter and barman at a rest camp in the Kruger National Park, having completed a training course with a local skills development program. After only a year of service, he was promoted to supervisor and stock controller and soon made his way to nearby <a href="http://singita.com/region/singita-kruger-national-park/">Singita Kruger National Park</a>, where he was appointed as a banakeli (personal waiter). He was promoted to Head Banakeli only two years later, and continues to be an inspiring, delightful and valuable member of the team.</p>

<p>“For me, working at Singita is a privilege because I get to interact with guests from all different countries and cultures,” Eddie says. In fact, some of the highlights of Eddie’s career include meeting some of the more high-profile guests whom he greatly admires: “It made me realise how important my job is and every time I get feedback from guests, it motivates me to improve.”</p>

<p>The other thing that motivates Eddie is his family; wife Tears and two daughters, Ablaze and Edwina. He also likes to read, play soccer, and catch up on the news, and is always striving to improve his leadership skills. He enjoys travelling, paying regular visits to different restaurants and lodges in order to learn from others, and helping where he can in his local community.
