Gorongosa National Park was once home to some of the greatest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, providing a safari experience rivalling the Serengeti and Kruger national parks in the 1960s and 1970s. In 2008, The Carr Foundation, a U.S. NGO signed a 20-year agreement with the Government of Mozambique to protect and restore Gorongosa.
