Central Mexico
Few cities in the world offer such a fascinating mix of old and new than Mexico City. Walking down stunning colonial streetscapes you will stumble across ancient Aztec structures or modern avant garde architecture. The artistic and cultural legacy left behind by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, continues on today as one of the world's most vibrant centres of art, design and architecture, not to mention home to some of the world's best restaurants.
Located just 2 hours from Mexico City, the colonial cities of Puebla and Cholula have become favourite weekend getaway destinations for the residents of the capital. The magical town of Cholula is considered the oldest city in the Americas and is famous for its beautiful golden convent rising up in front of the towing snowcapped, Popocatepetl volcano. Its larger neighbour, Puebla, is the region's capital and is the celebrated centre of Talavera Poblano pottery. Puebla's UNESCO city centre is home to some of the best examples of Mexican Baroque and Spanish colonial architecture.
Considered the most beautiful city in Mexico, San Miguel de Allende is an intriguing mix of old world charm with a modern cosmopolitan vibe. Founded in the 16th century, the centre feels like a time capsule of cobblestoned streets, stunning colonial architecture and vibrant colours. Most notable is the immense neo-gothic La Parroquia church of pink stone which stands proudly in the city square. The colourful streets, full of world class restaurants and a lively nightlife, give this town a cosmopolitan feel without losing any of its historic allure. Nearby day trips include desert hikes, hot springs and the Jesuit Sanctuary of Atotonilco, famous for its murals of angels and demons and it's dramatic Mexican Baroque interior. Well-preserved colonial city Santiago de Querétaro is also only a short drive away.
Southern Mexico
Oaxaca, to the south of Mexico City is one of country's most fascinating regions. Holding the esteemed title of Mexico's culinary capital, this beautiful colonial city is surrounded by small villages where much of Mexico's traditional handicrafts are made. The city is famous for Mole, Mezcal and its markets. Oaxaca is also home to the Zapotec ruins of Monte Alban, some of the best-preserved Pre-Colombian sites in the world.
Deep in the jungles of Chiapas, explore the ancient Mayan Ruins of Palenque, take a speed boat trip through the imposing Sumidero Canyon and marvel at the intriguing mix of colonial and indigenous cultures that inhabit the charming hilltop town of San Cristobal de las Casas.
Northern Mexico
For an authentic taste of Mexican Cowboy Country, brace yourself for an exciting adventure in the Copper Canyon. Home to one of the few remaining indigenous tribes in Mexico, the Tarahumara, this hidden gem is considerably larger than its North American counterpart, and without the hordes of tourists. Take a trip on the most scenic leg of the Chihuahua al Pacifico railway, step back in time with a visit to the 19th Century mining village of Batpolias located in the depths of the Canyon, or discover remote Tarahumara villages on a hiking trip through into this pristine wilderness.
Gulf Coast
On the Caribbean Coast of Mexico is the famous Yucatan Peninsula. Probably best know for it’s palm fringed beaches and turquoise waters, a short drive inland will unveil an ancient world of Mayan civilizations, networks of underground caves known as “cenotes” and the impressive capital city Merida, offering an eclectic mix of Mayan and colonial cultures with a modern Mexican flair.
Pacific Coast
The perfect destination to relax and unwind, Baja California offers a range of luxury choices offering pristine beaches, adventurous water sports and incredible whale watching. Easter Island, one of the world’s most remote inhabited islands, was named by the Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen who ‘discovered’ the Polynesian island on Sunday, 5th April 1722 – Easter Sunday. The island also goes by its Polynesian name, Rapa Nui, although this name didn’t appear until late in the 19th Century.
