Wildlife viewing in Latin America is excellent if you travel to the right destinations at the right time! Each area has varied seasons and during the productive months you will be able to travel comfortably and see tremendous amounts of wildlife.
During a 5-7 day trip to the Amazon and/or the Pantanal, wildlife you are likely to see will include several species of monkey, caiman, capybara, marsh deer, peccary (or bush pig), ocelot, giant otter, maned wolf, anteater and a huge variety of colourful and interesting bird species. Animals that you may see with a bit of luck and during some night drives include jaguar and puma and more of the almost 500 mammal species, 1,300 bird species, 370 reptile species, 400 amphibians and over 3,000 fish species - including several types of piranha - that live in and around the rainforest.
On a one week cruise around the Galapagos Islands, you are very likely to see sea lion, Galapagos penguin, giant tortoise, land and marine iguana, various species of sharks, turtles and a large numbers of unique birds and reptiles found nowhere else on earth.
A typical Antarctica cruise will yield several species of whales, penguins, seals and numerous bird species.
